The primary goal of the Music Ministry is to enhance the celebration of the Mass and other Liturgical Services with appropriate music. This includes the singing of hymns and anthems and the use of instrumental music to establish a background for prayer. By the choice and rendering of musical pieces we can enable the congregation to participate fully in each service, create a mood of reverence, and
highlight the meaning of the Scripture reading proper to that day. The music program includes the parish choir, children’s choir, possible handbell choir, instrumentalists who demonstrate a strong level of expertise, and specially trained cantors. Parish Choir
The St. Catherine Labouré Choir sings on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Mass, Christmas Midnight Mass, Easter Vigil, and other special occasions that arise during the year. We have a wonderful core of music- reading vocalists who provide a strong base for the entire group, but please note that you do NOT need the ability to read music to sing in the choir. Anyone who enjoys singing and can sing in key is most welcome! The parish choir is made up of those in middle school or older.
Children’s Choir
The Children’s Choir is for ALL children in the parish who are in 2nd grade or older. Children from our Religious Education program, from our school, and who are home schooled are all invited to participate. Our goal is to have the children sing approximately once a month, but especially for the following occasions: Catechetical Sunday, Catholic Schools Week, Christmas, and Easter. Additional dates are added and communicated during the year.
Handbell Choir
We have continued interest in a handbell choir, and we need a few more ringers! If you have played an instrument, or otherwise have acquired some ability to read music, please consider using your skills as a bell ringer in this unique group. If there is interest, a group for 7th through 12th grade youth is also possible!
Cantor
The ministry of cantor at St. Louise is a unique one that requires special skill and education because we are blessed with so many Sunday liturgies, special occasions, and holy days. Cantors, in addition to having a pleasant voice, must have the ability to read and learn music on their own. In fact, cantors
should have the ability to pick up new music and sing it almost immediately. Cantors are often called upon to adapt to changes within a few minutes of mass time! Cantors also must have the ability and desire to sing a variety of musical styles from chant to contemporary. Please inquire if you feel that you
would like to audition for this special ministry!
