Responsibilities
of an altar server:
Please read through these very basic expectations, explain to your son or daughter the importance of their commitment.
Altar servers are expected to show responsibility by serving when scheduled. Please be sure to review the altar server schedule when you receive your email. If the altar server cannot serve at their scheduled Mass, it is that altar server’s responsibility, with their parents’ help, to find a substitute. This is done via the scheduling software.
Report to the Church Sacristy at least 15 minutes before the start of Mass. The altar servers may be needed to help with preparations for Mass and the priest or deacon will take a few minutes to help review duties during Mass with our new servers.
Altar servers are expected to behave respectfully before, after and during Mass. During Mass an altar server will assist the priest and/or deacon in the entrance and closing processions, hold liturgical books for him, and help to prepare and clear the altar.
For special liturgies (such as Holy Week or Confirmation) altar servers may be expected to attend a rehearsal. Scheduling for special liturgies and rehearsals is typically done in consultation with our servers and their parents.
If a parent or sibling also serves as a liturgical minister at St. Catherine Labouré (Lector, Eucharistic Minister, or Altar Server), we will do our best to avoid conflicts in scheduled times.
By clicking the "I Agree" box below, I, as parent/guardian, give permission for my child to participate as an Altar Server at St. Catherine Labouré Parish. I understand the obligations which my child will accept and I will help him/her to understand the responsibilities of an altar server.
Please check this box.
